In Hello Kitty Island Adventure, friendship with the other characters around the island is essential for progressing through the story and making the most of the time spent playing the game. By increasing their friendship, players can unlock different tools and items to help them on their journey around the island.

Another benefit of friendship is that players can also bring characters with them while exploring as each character offers unique abilities when acting as a companion in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Each one has its own use that simply makes things easier on the player and can be initiated by simply striking up a conversation and asking a character to hang out.

Hello Kitty

Hello Kitty is the obvious choice for friendship in Hello Kitty Island Adventure for most players as she is the core of the game. She runs her cafe on the main part of the resort and can often be found residing there. She enjoys lots of things, especially Mama's Apple Pie, which is one of her favorite gifts.

Befriending Hello Kitty comes with multiple rewards that max out at level 25 friendship, at which point players are considered Best Friends. Her companion ability includes a 50% chance at an additional food item when cooking, additionally, she rewards tofu as a gift.

Chococat

Chococat is a great companion to have for many reasons and is actually one of the first friends in the game that will have large rewards early on, such as unlocking the Spooky Swamp area where other characters reside. He is also the owner of the crafting table, where everything players build from here on out will be made.

His companion ability includes a 30% chance of making an extra crafted item when he tags along. His gift reward includes Gizmos, which can be used in several crafting plans to make different items in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Pekkle

Pekkle can be found over in the Gemstone area of the map and has some nice items linked to his friendship as well, such as the Soda Machine in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. He loves lots of things, but mainly anything to do with music as he hangs out near the Dance Hall, which he will eventually ask for help setting up.

His gift reward is feathers which can be utilized by the player when crafting. Additionally, his companion's ability is simply to be a little more speedy when walking around, which can save time for a lot of players only checking in for a short period of time each day.

Hangyodon

Hangyodon is another good friend to have around as he is the only one players can make once they learn to dive underwater. He hangs around in his Comedy Club and is the character to befriend in order to use the Espresso Machine in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. He likes anything aquatic, even fish, as awkward as that is.

His reward gift is Candlenut, which is necessary in order to use the Espresso Machine as it is one of the base ingredients. His companion ability allows players to swim faster, something that can come in handy, especially for those with low Stamina.

Pompompurin

Pompompurin is also hanging out near the Gemstone region, primarily a little Northwest near his Dessert Shop, where the Ice Cream Machine can be found. He has several great reasons to be his friend and his reward gift is Bananas which can be used in multiple recipes at nearly every cooking station.

Given his affinity for Ice Cream, he likes things of that nature, including other things made with dairy and pudding. His companion ability will allow players to jump higher, something that can be especially useful for those low on Stamina in Hello Kitty Island Adventure and struggling to reach high places.

Keroppi

Keroppi is a frog that can be found hanging around in Spooky Swamp. He loves critters and is actually linked to the ability to unlock critter catching and the nature reserve. He loves all things bug and nature-like and his gift reward is Sugarkelp, which can be used to make plenty of sweet recipes at various cooking stations.

His companion ability allows for an easier time catching various critters, something to definitely make use of, especially if they often escape before being caught. He also plays an important role in unlocking the Soda Machine and will not do so until some of his own quests are completed.

Retsuko

Retsuko is likely going to be one of the last friends to be made as they can be found hanging around Mount Hothead, a location that is meant to be one of the last explored areas, especially since it is nearly impossible to ascend without at least one increase in Stamina using a Stamina Apple.

Retsuko enjoys music and their gift reward is Dough, which goes without saying, can be used in recipes, specifically Pizza recipes as Retsuko is linked to unlocking the Pizza Oven in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Their companion ability includes better Stamina and agility, something that can be helpful in keeping that Stamina wheel full.

Cinnamoroll

Cinnamoroll is a friend that will be made very early on as they are the one that introduces fast travel. Fast travel comes in very useful as it allows players to freely get around the map to areas they've already visited via Cinnamoroll's mailboxes. They enjoy things like coffee and chocolate and their gift reward includes Candy Clouds.

The companion ability of Cinnamoroll is that of simply flying/gliding for a longer duration. Unfortunately, Cinnamoroll doesn't stay confined to one area specifically, so players may need to use the map frequently to track them down.

My Melody

My Melody, alongside Hello Kitty, is one of the first friends players will make on the island and also one of the most important. She will be very valuable, especially as a companion since she can increase the percentage chance of another character giving an extra reward gift, which is helpful considering that gift giving and its rewards are limited to a certain amount each day.

She enjoys sweet things and her reward gift is Flour. Flour can be used in Hello Kitty's cafe to cook different baked goods as it is the primary ingredient.

Pochacco

Pochacco is the athletic pooch on the island and as such, enjoys things of that nature as well as more health-conscious items like Tofu which can be given to him as a gift in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. His reward gift is Strawberries which can be used in various recipes at several cooking stations.

His companion ability allows players to get around better while climbing on the island. His friendship is worth pursuing early on as it is linked to all of the Ziplines around the island and unlocks the ability to be able to craft Sparks, something that is required for the Snorkel, which allows players to dive.

Kuromi

Kuromi is another good friend to have as she unlocks several useful things on the island. Her friendship is directly linked to the ability to dive underwater and unlock the Haunted Mansion. She also holds the quest linked to the Green Power Crystals in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

She enjoys all things mystical and Fall related and her companion ability increases the effect of potions. Her gift reward includes Light Stones which can be used at Chococat's crafting table.

Tuxedosam

Tuxedosam owns the clothing shop found on the island. He resides back in the main area of the resort and players can see him for all their fashion needs. He enjoys tropical things, primarily, and his gift reward includes thread which can be used at the crafting station.

His companion ability allows for increased outfit efficiency and later also includes the chance at getting an extra item when trading at any of the available shops. He is also the character linked to dyeing clothes, one of the most important customization upgrades in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Badtz Maru

One of the other early characters to strike up a friendship with is Badtz-Maru who allows players to unlock the ability to fish in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which can then be given to different characters as gifts. He is a bit of a jokester so enjoys all things related to pranks and pizza.

His gift reward is paper which can be used at Chococat's crafting table to make things like books. Finally, his companion ability allows for better luck when fishing in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
